In the spirit of Throwback Thursday, here are some songs that I considered as my favorites back then. These songs are at least two years old already, and feel free to enjoy and reminisce (?). Apologies in advance if my musical taste may seem a little too random at times.
Say Somethin’- Mariah Carey
First of all, I am not a huge Mariah Carey fan (I actually find her annoying). However, no one can deny that The Emancipation of Mimi is probably one of the best albums of the 2000s. I used to like this song a lot because it’s catchy…and the Pharrell cameo made it awesome. If you ask me about the video, I sometimes wish that Pharrell and Mariah would end up together because of the following reasons:
1) They are close in age, and they both found the secret to youth.
2) They’re going to churn one hit after another because Mariah’s a vocal powerhouse and Pharrell is just good at many things.
(sorry if it’s a bit TL;dr)
Day N’ Nite- Kid Cudi
I LOVE Kid Cudi. He’s one of my favorite rappers, and I think this song was the one that got me interested in his music. And oh, he recently collaborated with Haim, which makes him even more awesome!! Check out their performance of Red Eye during this year’s Coachella below:
Friendly Fires- Hurting
- Feels, and nothing but feels everywhere whenever I listen to this song. ‘Nuff said.
*insert “BEYONCE!!!!” here*
Beyonce never ceases to amaze me. She can do no wrong, and this song was one of my favorites from her album, 4.
The XX- Chained
This song is my favorite from The XX’s second album, Coexist. It’s one of those many songs that get you into ~~*feels territory*~~.
My Chemical Romance– You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison
When I was in sixth grade, I had a huge My Chemical Romance phase. If I remember correctly, I was blasting their music almost everyday, and it became a huge feature in my conversations with one of my old friends. Looking back, I do not regret this musical phase because it actually influenced my future musical preferences, despite the emo frenzy that came along with it.
